Amygdala Grey Matter Volume and Face Activation Compared to Social Network Size

نویسندگان

چکیده

Amygdala volume and face activation activity have been linked to social network size. In the current study, these relationships were examined through analysis of Magnetic Resonance Imaging survey data 116 subjects, with a more detailed smaller sub-sample 20 subjects. Amygdalae structural volumes analyzed using Freesurfer, functional was Statistical Parametric Mapping, ultra-high-resolution susceptibility-weighted images in-house MATLAB scripts. Mean amygdala obtained in this experiment are line those reported previous research. Left correlated scores males, both left right hippocampus square root size one’s females. Significant correlations also observed between levels measures (n = 20).

Grey matter volume and cortical structure in Prader-Willi syndrome compared to typically developing young adults

Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is a neurodevelopmental disorder of genomic imprinting, presenting with a characteristic overeating disorder, mild to moderate intellectual disability, and a variable range of social and behavioral difficulties. Consequently, widespread alterations in neural structure and developmental and maturational trajectory would be expected. To date, there have been few quanti...

Brain size and grey matter volume in the healthy human brain.

Magnetic resonance imaging was used to evaluate the influence of sex and brain size on compartmental brain volumes (grey matter, white matter, CSF) in a large and well-matched sample of neurologically normal women (n = 50) and men (n = 50). As expected, we found a significant sex difference for the absolute volumes of total brain, grey matter, white matter and CSF, with greater volumes for men....

Cortical grey matter volume and sensorimotor gating in schizophrenia

Prepulse inhibition (PPI) of the startle response, a cross-species measure of sensorimotor gating, provides a valuable tool to study the known inability of a large proportion of individuals with schizophrenia to effectively screen out irrelevant sensory input. The cortico-striato-pallido-thalamic circuitry is thought to be responsible for modulation of PPI in experimental animals. The involveme...

Differential activation of the amygdala and the 'social brain' during fearful face-processing in Asperger Syndrome.

Impaired social cognition is a core feature of autism. There is much evidence showing people with autism use a different cognitive style than controls for face-processing. We tested if people with autism would show differential activation of social brain areas during a face-processing task. Thirteen adults with high-functioning autism or Asperger Syndrome (HFA/AS) and 13 matched controls. We us...

Brain grey matter volume alterations in late-life depression.

BACKGROUND Voxel-based morphometry (VBM) studies have demonstrated that grey matter abnormalities are involved in the pathophysiology of late-life depression (LLD), but the findings are inconsistent and have not been quantitatively reviewed. The aim of the present study was to conduct a meta-analysis that integrated the reported VBM studies, to determine consistent grey matter alterations in in...
